We arrived at Ho Chi Minh via train (we came from Da Nang), and we were able to immediately hire a taxi going to Pham Ngu Lao. Since it is the most popular tourist hub in Ho Chi Minh, it shouldn’t be hard to get to this area. The taxi driver dropped us into a street full of restaurants, bars, and tour agancies. When we asked him where our hotel was since it’s address was 283/26, he pointed us at a small (and quite dark) alley in between shops.
Quite hesistant as the taxi drove away, we entered the alley, and was greeted by clusters of hotels. We spotted ours at the end of the alley.
Vinh Chung Hotel is one of the many budget hotels around the Pham Ngu Lao area. We booked this hotel via agoda after reading satisfactory reviews on tripadvisor and various blogs.
The double room we had was satisfactory for a budget hotel. The room was quite old but spacious enough for our things. The bed was comfortable too. The comfort room was quite dilapidated though, with no hot shower, and broken mirror. There were a But well, still good for a $20 hotel at the heart of the city.
The location was good, a walking distance from bars, restaurants, tour agencies and attractions like Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Square and People’s Committee Hall. The Pham Ngu Lao area is full of tourists in general so you will feel comfortable in a way. The hotel vicinity was kinda noisy though at around 7PM-10PM. We were out during these times so it didn’t really bother us.
Vinh Chung is a family run hotel, with kind and accommodating staff. Happy was especially helpful by booking us our Cu Chi Tunnels tour (two thumbs up!), and guiding us on where to start on a day of touring and more. They also offer laundry services, motorbike tours, and walking tours.
Overall, Vinh Chung is a good place to stay at Pham Ngu Lao area, Ho Chi Minh especially if your want to stay at the heart of a tourist hub, and is on a very tight budget! 🙂
